elites vs elitism vs others
OMG THE STUPID THING FINALLY LOADED! I have been trying for a whole night/morning and FINALLY it worked. Geez, after transferring to beta.blogger, took 1 hour to get it going before i managed to log in at around 1130pm. Then had this problems that i could not load the 'create a post' page so in the end, i did not blog. So now, at like 130pm, 14 hours after, it FINALLY loaded. Geez.
Anyway! So much exciting news last night la! Ok not really but ya some~ Haha. First and foremost the one that will affect me:
1. I'm going to tokyo on the 25th! Probably coming back on 31st apparently. So exciting, flying on christmas and new year's eve! Heehee. SO FUN! Lalalala~ I wonder what i will do there hm.. Shopping sounds exciting you know! Considering after spending that hell'of a long day out at vivo/orchard walking that day and like waiting 1.5 hours for Bong/Elt to sign plans for Vietnamese people... and i did NOT buy anything then. So hm... i still have the money in my wallet -sniggers- ... Hm so yeap, that's the first most exciting news that i'm going to TOKYO! :D haha~
2. Genting won the IR bid. Ok so what does that mean? It means that we are going to have UNIVERSAL STUDIOS SINGAPORE! Amazing eh, a PROPER roller coaster in Singapore finally, not like the one at Escape -.- Proper theme parks, no longer would we have to like to go Australia or US to go to a proper theme park. :D hahaha~ SO COOL! Apparently, it's going to be finished earliest in 2009 so that's approximately 3 years from now. Oh right, we're in army. >< Bleugh.
3. Hm not that exciting but well, singapore won a 3rd gold medal in Asian games in bodybuilding. LOL they look really scary man... Ok moving on, not interesting topic.
4. Read papers today, Saturday section page 11 (i think). There is an article about elitism hm... Pretty interesting read though i would not agree with the writer in one aspect saying that it is up to the elites to try to bridge the gap between them and the other people because if you go by this logic, it's a bit ironical as it is a game of give and take and it should really be more of a compromise then just one way trying to help the other. But well, there are some really good points brought up in the article but maybe as yeowhua has said, there's not much point in it? It's got a pretty good ending, though a little snubbish, but that's the matter of fact. Let me go take my newspaper and put it here.
"This is because the meritocracy that the country is built on has, to a large extent, emphasised the material rewards that come to those who are able and work hard.
So those who rise to the top expect a just reward for their efforts and resent having to be apologetic about the good life they have won for themselves.
And those who fare less well worry constantly about the lack of a level playing field and remain sensitive to the slightest hint that the elite receive special privileges.
The political elite has its work cut out."
-quoted from The Straits Times
Haha~ So yeap, i have to agree with the writer on this point, we are living in a meritocratic society after all, if you want to succeed, there's no point trying to complain about 'oh it's so unfair that we are underpriveleged, getting less resources and whatever to help us'. Well, when i was a little kid, who would have known i would have ended up here in RI going on to RJC. Hm~ Work hard, do your best and why complain? Make the best of every opportunity i guess eh, just don't end up like.. hm ok nevermind, can't think of anything now :D haha! So ya go read it! Pretty enlightening.
Hm i wonder what other exciting stuff are going on. Nothing at the moment. Blog again later if got any new stuff :D
